New zombies from Mega Minis

Image
Always happy to see Mega Miniatures release some new zeds, these are parodies named Grosso Clown, Scary Potter and Filthy Harry. These are superior sculpts. I especially love the clown! Check them out at http://stores.ebay.com/MegaMiniatures

Zombie Medical Staff

More great hospital zeds from Recreational Conflict. I especially love the nurse with the broken neck!

Black Cat Bases Scenery

Image
Some great resin modern or PA scenery from Black Cat Games a really great company with really cool stuff and perfect service. We have some trashed couches and mattresses here. They are fun to paint and as you can see I got a little carried away, I'm not sure that a zed would even lay on these babies! http://www.blackcatbases.com

The Torn by Spinespur original figures

Image
Edit: I have learned from Spinespur that these figs are discontinued due to how thin they came out. The figures listed on their site, shown on webstores and Vampifans blog are the ones that are available now. So to see what you can actually buy please check out these sites. IN essence what you see here is a limited run. Some may be available somewhere but that is something you will have to find out if you want these three. My apologies for not noticing. Some creatures from Spinespur that make nice half skinned nude zombies. Bloody and horrifying they make a nice addition to my collection. Nice sculpts that are fun to paint. I used alot of drybrushing and washes. I started out with watered down elf flesh, then a red wash, followed by blue and black washes. I dryvrushed them witha light gray and then white. Afterwards I added really bloody spots, highlighted their guts and painted the eyes white.

Zombie Patients Painted

Image
These are the same zombie patients I reviewed early, finally painted. I am very happy with how easily they paint up and how good they look afterwards. I am encouraged to keep working on my 'hospital of the dead' with all the good doctors, nurses and other hospital staff and patients that are coming out now. There is also a set of 4 Zombie Hospital Staff from Recreational Conflict. You can find them all here; http://www.recreationalconflict.com/

The Zombie Freak

Image
A most unusual fig from the Black Orc sculptors page. I call him the zombie freak. He certainly isn't your average zombie but thats okay. He can be an abberation, a freak, something very different and much more deadly than the common shambler or rager. Sure hes funny looking but dont let that fool you, those overlong arms and big teeth can finish you off quicker than a horde of regular garden variety zeds! I love these Black Orc open sculpt figures and remember they are only a buck. I've earmarked a few more figs they have for conversions. But that is for another day. Today the zombie freak rules!

Zedversions

Image
Well I'm up to 73 painted zombies on my way to 1,000. Getting to 1,000 means you grab up every zed you see and some you don't! They are nearby in your bits box or odd miniature drawer... This lovely lady zed started out as a beautiful resin Fenryll miniature. Somehow its legs got broken off, also her hand as she was gripping the base. She was a perfect choice for a zed. Her outfit wasn't too fantasy to fit in to the modern world. She was about to acquire the infection! After gluing her to a 25mm base, I added some wood filler to her broken off limbs, let it dry. At that point she was ready to be primed and painted. She won't be the fastest zombie on the table but she'll look good. This guy was a Horrorclix clone. I thought he would make a good zombie but when he got here I found out he had no mouth. Fortunately he is soft plastic so a conversion would take seconds. I sliced out a mouth hole with an exacto blade and since he was pretty clean I added a lot of wood f

Painted Black Orc Zombies

Image
I bought these guys for $1 a piece. They paint up really nice and are a great bargain. I especially like the first one pictured, in the bathrobe. Thats a great fig. Unique subject matter and good facial expression. The two doctors are really good sculpts and painted up nicely. The tough guy is rather indescript until you paint him up, then he comes to life. The guy with the slightly large head also looks up better painted. Lastly the young lady has her hair hanging in her face and has a knife behind her back in a skeletal hand. These are a great deal and I still have a bunch more to paint. A steal if you are looking to bulk up your zombie horde.

The army grows!

Image
I've been away for a while, busy with my commissions and ebay but I managed to sneak a handful of nice things in. Here they are in all their glory. Some stuff you may have missed or passed up thats pretty good. When you are aiming for an army of one thousand, no zed shall be left behind. 7 zeds from Mega Minis, including 4 children. Great figs. They have lots of them, too and very inexpensive. These are zombies from Rezolution. They are some of my favorite. I especially like the fat guy. The guy on the right is my first attempt at undead african skin. A repainted Horrorclix, I like much better this way. Wyrd's monster baby makes a great zed. I always pondered the idea of a boss zombie like in the video games, you have bosses. Maybe he started the plague. This guy is a Reaper fantasy fig who is nuetral enough to look good in a modern setting. I liked how his skin came out but he has worms all over him. I hate worms so I painted them black so they wouldnt show up too good! My

Black Orc Games Mini-Sculpt-Zombies!!!!

Image
I found some zombies in the Black Orc Games Mini-Sculpt section, which is a place sculptors can sell their product on a commission basis.. The figs are only $1 each and for the price are a very nice find. Most are sculpted by Darren Greenaway but there are a few other sculptors work here, so they have some variety in size, style, etc. Aside from a dead chap with a big head I thought they were nicely done for the price. The service was very fast and pleasant, including a freebie and unexpected discount. Including postage, etc for $20 I have 14 zombies now to bulk out the army. They have a variety of other figs as well. Check it out, you may see something you like; http://cart.blackorc.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=80&sort=20a&page=1

My favorite zombie, Prof. Emcee Square

Image
This is Professor Emcee Square, host of the Its Alive show. He is a VIP and mover and shaker in the Pittsburgh area and is a key person in the annual Zombie Walk. His show is very well done although the movies are beyond ghastly, guaranteed to put an insomniac to sleep! He shares the show with an interesting cast of characters. You can see them on the web at Itsalive.com

The value of Horrorclix zombies

Image
When I first started on my zombie project, I did it on the cheap to make sure I really wanted to invest time and money into this. So I researched it on TMP and came up with the Horrorclix line. I found an online dealer selling horrorclix down as low as 25 cents (MiniatureMarket.com) The figs are nice, creative sculpts and some are painted fairly well, only needing touchups. Other required repainting. They were also easy to pop off their bases and add to a 25mm round base. Horrorclix has great figs, they also have a great variety of other horror figs that spur ideas for great horror games.

Beginning with scraps from the morgue....

Bloody good folks! Always ready for a good time! I started out on the cheap by touching up, repainting and basing prepainted plastics from D&D, Horrorclix and anything I found laying around the mortuar--uh I mean basement. This worked well to get me quickly started with at least ten figs with a few hours work. One of the keys for me was that I needed to be able to crank out the zeds quickly and still have them look good. Historically I have never painted more than one zombie the same way. I decided that this is a good thing! Dead people need their identity as well! Somehow they managed to survive this far into the zombie apocalypse. Figs are Superfigs-cheerleader painted in my school colors ahem, the tough guy is a heroclix fig and the dark skinned girl is a Power Rangers plastic fig, found at a flea market by Momzomb. The reddish haired girl is an X-men Boomer fig converted to have modern normal attire. The only sculpting is the roll ups on her jeans. The rest was cutting off th
